The new album 'Tommaso Starace Quartet - Blood & Champagne' is now out and features an extraordinary new Uk line up which includes Frank Harrison on piano; Laurence Cottle on bass and Chris Nickolls on drums. The album is a collection of newly composed material plus additional compositions by Ennio Morricone, Michel Petrucciani, Billy Staryhorn.
London based Italian saxophonist Tommaso Starace continues to make a mark on the European jazz circuit. His previous CD recorded last year in 2009 - 'Tommaso Starace Quartet - Don't Forget' features a exciting Italian line up including Attilio Zanchi, Michele Di Toro and Tommy Bradascio. The CD launch took place at a sold out concert at the Blue Note in Milano in January 2010. The quartet has recently completed a tour in London and North Italy visiting jazz clubs and festivals which include Pizza Express Jazz Club Dean Street, Brianza Open Jazz festival, Biella Jazz Festival.
His previous CD 'Tommaso Starace plays the photos of Elliott Erwitt', recorded with his Uk quintet, was inspired by the black and white photographs of the great Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt. This project allowed Tommaso to tour extensively around the UK, performing in some of the major jazz clubs and festivals.
In 2007/08 Tommaso has also been busy performing concerts in different parts of Italy and taking part in the renowned Time In Jazz Festival organized by trumpeter Paolo Fresu.
He has performed and collaborated with many great musicians including Dave Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Billy Cobham, Jim Mullen, Liam Noble, Jonathan Gee, Roger Beaujolais, Paolo Pellegatti, Attilio Zanchi, Tino Tracanna, Paolo Fresu, Gianni Giudici and film composer Dario Marianelli. He continues to seek inspiration and nurture his jazz expertise by taking part in jazz seminars and classes led by some of the greatest musicians alive, including Dave Liebman, Miguel Zenon, Vincent Herring, Ted Nash.
A new recording with the London jazz Quartet is on its way and features Roger Beaujolais on vibraphone, Sam Gambarini on Hammond Organ and Alessandro Pivi on drums. The production of the CD will be ready for the end of the year 2010.
